Pwned by Big Box Rental

The day was a complete write-off. 

Well, maybe not completely. Katie did finish the sealing the remaining pine on the walls. But for me: A complete WRITE-OFF.

The plan today was to sand and stain the concrete floors. Simple enough. I picked up the dark gray Smith's concrete stain at Cadman earlier in the week. I went to the Big Box rental store about 7:30 this morning, and rented an orbital floor sander. Easy enough.

When we arrived at KnArrow Haus, I pulled the sander out of the back of the car and realized it did not have a disc on the bottom... Pretty tough to use the sanding screens I bought without a disc that's turning. Ugh.

Katie said to go ahead and leave her at the cabin to work on the wood. I drove all the way back to the Big Box rental deparment -- 1 hour and 15 minutes -- to get the disc. 

An hour and fifteen minutes later I arrived and they gave me the disc. Easy. Back to KnArrow Haus.

30 minutes later, outside of Monroe, I started thinking about "the disc" and realized it was hard plastic with a bunch of barbs on it. Hows that supposed to work with a sanding screen...? I phoned the Big Box rental department.

"Oh, they didn't give you a 1/2 inch foam pad?"

"Nope."

"Yeah. There's a white or green pad that goes between the disc and the sanding screen."

"Well, I guess I'll be there in a bit." Ugh.

Thirty minutes later I depart once again from the Big Box rental. An hour and fiften minutes later I arrived back at KnArrow Haus, 3-1/2 hours after I'd left Katie there. 

Hauled the sander out of the car, took it up to the top floor. Went to plug it in...

Whatever plug was on the end of it was not going to connect to a standard 110/120V plug.

The day was a TOTAL LOSS.  

No sanding. No staining. SIX hours of driving. 

When I arrived at the Big Box rental department this evening, the guy said, pointing to a rack of cords near the front desk, "They didn't give you one of those gray extension cords?" 

"Nope."

The Big Box rental store kindly refunded my rental money. I wish they could give me the day back. Saturdays are precious resources. Not many left before I need to have this thing finished.
